Product Description

What is Folic acid?

Folic acid is a water-soluble vitamin named for its rich content in green leaves, also known as pteroylglutamic acid. There are several forms of existence in nature, and its parent compound is composed of pteridine, p-aminobenzoic acid, and glutamic acid. Folic acid plays an important role in protein synthesis, cell division, and growth and promotes the formation of normal red blood cells. When it is lacking, it can reduce the production of hemoglobin in red blood cells, block cell maturation, and lead to megaloblastic anemia.
 

Production Process

 

Condensation: Firstly, a chemical reaction is carried out to synthesize the condensation product of para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) and glutamic acid. This condensation product undergoes a series of reactions and processing steps to ultimately form the structural framework of folic acid.

Acid purification: The synthesized folic acid solution is subjected to acid purification to remove impurities and contaminants. Acid purification is typically performed using dilute acids such as sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid to treat the solution. By adjusting the acidity, alkalinity, and temperature, impurities are induced to precipitate. Solid impurities are then separated by methods like filtration or centrifugation, resulting in a relatively pure folic acid solution.

Alkali purification: The folic acid solution is reacted with a strong alkali, such as sodium hydroxide, to aid in the removal of residual impurities and contaminants. Subsequently, the pH of the solution is adjusted through neutralization, gradually approaching neutrality.

Acid precipitation: Folic acid in the acidic solution undergoes a reaction with acid, leading to its conversion into a solid precipitate. The precipitate is then separated by methods such as filtration or centrifugation.

Spray drying or flash drying: The folic acid precipitate is sprayed into hot air to facilitate rapid evaporation and formation of fine particles. Another commonly used method is flash drying, where the folic acid precipitate is exposed to a high-temperature environment to quickly evaporate moisture and form dried particles.

Packing: The dried folic acid powder is packaged using sealed containers or bags to ensure long-term storage and freshness of the product.

Finished Product: The final step involves labeling and quality inspection of the packaged folic acid product. The product is evaluated according to quality standards to ensure compliance with specified quality requirements and purity standards.
