What is Vitamin D3?
Cholecalciferol, also known as vitamin D3, is a type of vitamin D which is made by the skin, found in some foods, and taken as a dietary supplement. Vitamin D is a fat-soluble nutrient that is found naturally in only a few foods. It is used to treat and prevent vitamin D deficiency. Cholecalciferol is produced by the skin when it is exposed to UVB light.
In the liver, it is converted into calcifediol (25-hydroxyvitamin D), which is then converted in the kidney to calcitriol (1,25- dihydroxy vitamin D). In simpler words, the body can more easily absorb calcium and phosphorus from food and supplements with the help of the fat-soluble vitamin known as cholecalciferol or Vitamin D3.
