What is Glycine ?
Glycine is also known as aminoacetic acid. Its chemical formula is C2H5NO2. It is a white solid under normal temperature and pressure. It is the simplest amino acid in the amino acid series and is unnecessary to the human body.
Glycine, or aminoacetic acid, is the smallest of the 20 protein amino acids. It is white or light yellow crystal, soluble in water, has a sweet taste. The side bond of glycine is a hydrogen atom. The alpha carbon of glycine is connected to two hydrogen atoms, and there is no asymmetric carbon, so there is no optical isomer. Because the side bonds of glycine are so small, it can take up space that no other amino acid can, such as being an amino acid in the collagen helix.
